55ClassMembers of the Class of 1955 and their spouses marked the 50th year of their graduation from Lutheran High School Central during the weekend of September 30 through October 2 in St. Louis. The gala weekend began on Friday with a cocktail reception at the home of class member Al Huning. Among the highlights of the evening was the playing of a DVD of informal snapshots from their high school years which the former teenagers had sent in, along with music from the 1950’s as background. On Saturday afternoon their old school at 455 Lake at Waterman, was open from 2 to 4 P.M. for a walk-through by alumni. Mr. Charles Hoger, their former biology teacher, was present at the building to evoke the nostalgia of various class members. Later Saturday evening, other revered teachers— Mr. Edwin Trusheim, social studies, and Mr. David Rohde, journalism—joined the class for dinner at the Missouri Athletic Club. A harpist and pianist provided background music at the MAC as the hundred or more people in attendance reminisced, talked, and laughed together, all the while enjoying a sumptuous dinner. Herb Eggerding and Ruth Wrausmann Rangel emceed the program, which included the singing of the Fight Song, the Lutheran High Hymn, and the 1955 Class Song; and the acknowledging of the class’ reunion gift. During the evening, while those present stood in silence, the names of the 23 class members known to be deceased were read solemnly. Numerous out-of-town guests stayed overnight at the MAC, which made attendance at Sunday’s downtown activities convenient. Members of the Class of 1955 sat together at the 10:15 A.M. worship service at Old Trinity in Soulard on Sunday morning, October 2. For some, this was the highlight of the reunion weekend, as they remembered with gratitude the Christ-centered education they had received 50 years before. After church, a one-block walk to Norton’s Café for an outdoor brunch gave the alumni a final chance to enjoy each other’s company before saying their good-byes until the next reunion. The Herald
